Previously Unshared: A Few Headshots

These head shots have been hidden away in my files for a while. I wasn’t planning to share them originally (outside of sending them to my client), but after stumbling onto them again, I really like them. I dig how detailed the eyes turned out especially, and how they pop in the black and white prints. My client really liked them too; from what I’ve heard the shots regularly appear in his company’s media materials. So, here's a few of them!

Real Estate Mortgage Shoppe

Adventures abound! I can now cross "seeing the inside of a radio station" off of my bucket list! For this short gig with Mary Lou Nowak of Home Helpers Home Care, I filmed the broadcast of weekly radio show and podcast, Real Estate Mortgage Shoppe with Jo Garner. Check out a few photos from inside the booth, and the completed video below!

Photo Shoot with Musician Merit Koch

One of my favorite things about being a photographer is getting to collaborate with other artists. I had so much fun photographing musician and actress, Merit Koch, at her family's "home place"! Merit was really up for anything, and I can't wait to see what she does with the shots after this!

Here's a few select photos from our shoot, along with a shot of their companion mini-prints:

2nd Annual Haunted Holly Springs Tour

On October 21st, Phillip Knecht and Andrea Edgeworth of Lost River Mercantile were thrilled to introduce over 500 tourists to several of Holly Springs' 'ghosts' in the 2nd Annual "Haunted Holly" Springs tour. The tour combined antebellum architecture with spooky stories of the past, all told by (very much alive) local residents of Holly Springs.

Here's a handful of photos from the tour, plus a screen shot of my photos in the South Reporter.

Instant Mini Prints in Progress

I'm steadily finding new, and creative ways of printing my favorite photos for display. So far, I absolutely love the look of mini instant film! It doesn't work for all shots, but for images with strong contrast, the values and rich colors really pop!

I can't wait to share a handful of these fun prints with some of my favorite clients. I've already started planning the packaging (a couple of options shown below), and what they could look like as a larger set. Next up: maybe framing?

The below photos are from Creative Aging's latest Creative Arts Series program, featuring the New Ballet Ensemble & School.

New Ballet School & Creative Aging

Some of my new favorite photos came from Creative Aging's latest Senior Arts Series performance at Theatre Memphis! In September, seniors were treated to music and dance by the New Ballet Ensemble & School, whose performance encorporated a variety of different music and dramatic dance styles. I really loved the photos from this show; it was so hard to choose favorites for the blog!

"Holly Springs Stories" in Ashland

Last month, I was invited by artist Joyceann Gardner to share my Holly Springs Video Stories with the Snow Lake Shores community in Ashland, MS.

This is the second public showing of my video series on Holly Springs, and the feedback has been absolutely wonderful! I’m definitely going to consider doing more public presentations like this as things develop.

Photos of my short preliminary talk by my assistant, Alexandra Ashmead, of the Holly Springs Depot, who was kind enough to take some shots for the blog.

Southern Eatery in Eat.Drink.MS

My article in the October / November issue of “Eat. Drink. Mississippi” highlights Holly Springs’ very own Southern Eatery! Read about how Stewart’s Catering grew into a full-time restaurant, and what inspires the family's original dishes! Pick up the current issue of "Eat. Drink.", out now, at your local bookstore.

Creative Aging's Senior Arts Series

More blog catch up!

These black and white photos are from one of Creative Aging's Senior Arts Series performances at Theatre Memphis. The performers include Creative Aging Storyteller, Elaine Blanchard, Vocalist Laurence Albert, and Jill Brookoff on piano. Not shown are the color versions of these shots; I just really love the mood of monochrome for this story. Especially for the portraits.

Creative Aging is non-profit that coordinates a number of arts programs and events for senior citizens in the Mid-South. As the arts are something very close to me, it's been a joy to volunteer with the organization for the past two years!

The June / July issue of "Eat. Drink. Mississippi" is out, along with another article! For this issue, I covered the Oxford Canteen, a unique spot located right in the side of the Lyric Oxford music venue. Pick up a copy from your local bookstore (including Square Books in Oxford) and discover new favorite restaurants!

The Tracks of Art Video & Photos

For the Tracks of Art this past May, I wore a couple of different hats. Not only did my mini-documentaries about Holly Springs make their offline debut, but I also photographed the event to further promote the arts in Holly Springs. As someone told me, the work was very "meta".

And, I took things one step further by putting together a slideshow of the photos from the Tracks of Art. Check it out below! The music is an original song from one of the musicians who performed at the event, Merit Koch. You can hear more of her music at: http://www.meritkoch.com

Special thanks to the Holly Springs Depot for putting together such a fabulous event, and for promoting the arts! As usual, it was a blast to participate, and photograph!

Below are a handful of photos from the event, including a glimpse at the coverage from the South Reporter newspaper in Holly Springs. We had a great full-color photo spread!
